This booklet was initially made possible through the generous cooperation of both the Lincoln County Historical Society at North Platte, Neb., and the Union Pacific Railroad. Those at the time of original publication who shared their own canteen memories were Rae Wilson Sleight. Rose Loncar, Edna Neid, Doris Dotson. Eugene Slattery, Ed Launer and Sam Drummy. Special assistance was provided by Geraldine Young and Ken Longe. Others who helped in various ways were Michael M. Bartels, Roger Bruhn, Bennett Buck. Gary Cuda, William Ervin. Francis Gschwind, Dick Herre, Penny Koch, Neil Mitchell, J.C. Seacrest, Richard Schmeling and Art Stensvad. Additional information sources were back issues of the North Platte Telegraph and North Platte Bulletin newspapers. various Union Pacific brochures on the canteen, and the prose of Daisy Crusen-Honman.

Publication of this edition was made possible through a grant provided by the Nebraska Division of Travel & Tourism. Helping to arrange for publication were Muriel Clark. executive assistant of the North Platte/Lincoln County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Gary Boehlke. curator of the Lincoln County Historical Society Museum.

Additional assistance, in the form of their own extensive writings on the subject of the canteen, was provided by Keith Blackledge. former editor of the North Platte Telegraph, and Sharon Hollen, reporter at large for the Telegraph. Michael M. Bartels kept the author informed of additional information as it became available,

Writer and author Bob Greene, by the publication of his book about the canteen, helped to expand public interest in the author's own work. Annie Mumgaard, writer and producer for Nebraska ETV, provided the author the opportunity to share in the making of a public television documentary on the canteen. And finally, educator Martin Steinbeck has long cooperated with the author in the course of Martin’s prodigious effort to maintain an Internet website devoted to the North Platte Canteen. The site can be viewed at: http://npcanteen.net/.
